This family photo session was truly wonderful because I have had the pleasure of following this family’s story for many years. It’s four years after Sophie and Brennan’s wedding, and here I am, capturing the most beautiful moment of them becoming parents to their new son.
In the heart of Timonium, MD, nestled in the warmth of their home, the Butz family recently welcomed their newest member, baby Reid. As I mentioned, I had the honor of capturing Sophie and Brennan’s magical wedding day in 2019. I was thrilled to reunite with this lovely couple for a special family photoshoot. The Butz family radiates a unique charm, and with the backdrop of their cozy home, we aimed to capture the essence of their familial love and the precious moments with their newborn.
Since I know this couple very well from previously working with them, stepping into their home for the family photoshoot felt like a reunion with old friends. The familiarity allowed us to dive straight into capturing authentic moments as the couple shared glimpses of their journey from wedding vows to parenthood. This connection not only made the atmosphere more relaxed but also added a layer of depth to the photographs.
Sophie and Brennan envisioned a photoshoot that reflected the intimate nature of their bond, and we chose a moody aesthetic to amplify the emotions within each frame. Soft, diffused lighting and carefully selected angles created a documentary style, highlighting the warmth of their home and the tenderness of the moments shared with their son.
The decision to set their photo session within their own home, I think, is a great way to keep the parents and baby feeling comfortable. It is hard enough trying to adjust to life with a newborn, and getting the couple to work through daily tasks such as changing, cuddling, putting to sleep, etc., adds an extra layer of comfort to the entire experience. From the cutest nursery set-up to the cozy Christmas-decorated living room, every corner of their home served as a canvas for capturing genuine emotions.
Sophie is a NICU nurse, and she not only brought her maternal warmth to the shoot but also shared insights into the challenges of getting a newborn to cooperate for photographs. This brought out a lot of smiles and laughs throughout the photoshoot.
Capturing the Butz family’s intimate moments was truly a heartwarming experience. I thank Sophie and Brennan for thinking of me after all these years. It’s genuinely such a privilege to be part of their evolving story, and I look forward to capturing more of their family’s special moments in the years to come.
