I love a couple that takes a curveball like the champions they are, which is exactly what Amy and Nate did when faced with their traditional wedding getting pushed back in the ‘Great Year of Postponements’. I’m sure you can guess why. Yet, these two were so eager to be man and wife that love found a way, coming in the form of an intimate and carefully designed micro-wedding that was nothing short of breathtaking.
This was an extra special moment for me because Nate is actually a friend from high school! I was so honored to be asked to capture this special day for them, let alone be invited to participate in an amazing mountain getaway.
If you have to isolate, at least do it in style, and that’s just what my friends did when they realized they needed to abandon their planned nuptials in Chicago. Instead of giving up, Nate and Amy brainstormed small safe settings where they could scale down their gathering without sacrificing the beautiful celebration they had been imagining.
When I got the email that we were headed to the wild and wonderful wilderness of Tennessee for the couple’s new and bespoke micro-wedding, I knew I was in for a treat. This Pennsylvania girl does not lack for beautiful surroundings in my home state, but the peaks and valleys of the epic Smoky Mountains are just…well, I can see why they make Dolly Parton proud. Gorgeous is too subtle a word.
Amy and Nate set to work to make the most incredible experience for their little pod of guests, from planned meals, to hikes, to hot tubbing in the great outdoors, this was a full-on experience for the small circle that was able to attend. Combine the best weekend getaway, with a rowdy family reunion, and a romantic wedding, and it was the best retreat from the world that you can imagine.
Amy and Nate, thank you for letting me be a party to your amazing celebration! I’ll be thinking about Tennessee for a long time to come.
