Imagine exchanging vows with your loved one in a picturesque mountain top surrounded by breath-taking natural landscapes, dancing under the twilight, and then wandering down to have a campfire with your family and friends. These were the dreams of my bride and a groom, Amanda and Taylor, who wanted to have a private yet romantic whimsy-filled elopement with their family at Promise Ridge in Pennsylvania.
Amanda and Taylor envisioned their special day to incorporate the beauty of the movie version of the Secret Garden, with the moodier and enchanted Forbidden Forest aesthetic from Harry Potter, and Promise Ridge delivered! Maybe it’s because it IS the secret garden and private home of Alissa, Promise Ridge’s officiant, but the surrounding forest, creek, and beautiful rooms of her property were a natural fit. The scenery always speaks for itself and creates a magical atmosphere for elopements.
Amanda and Taylor gathered their tight knit circle and relished their time together, putting on their final pre-ceremony touches and savoring the calm. That’s always one of the nice things about elopements and small groups- fewer distractions, and everyone can focus on what’s essential, which was creating lasting memories of their wedding day.
The ladies adjusted trains and assembled flowers under the constant click of camera shutters (phone and mine), and the gentlemen were busy looping ties and searching out cuff links, casual and easy conversations creating a pleasant drone in the background.
I love this part of preparing for ceremonies, where loved ones listen to music, share stories, and laugh. It always lovely to witness the conflicting relaxed yet excited busy-ness.
When it was time for the ceremony, the small crowd made their way to Promise Ridge. Gathered on the gorgeous infinity deck, they celebrated Amanda and Taylor’s love story and their journey so far, with views that go on for miles.
After a string-lit first dance, and more pictures among the trees, the group headed back to their accommodations for an intimate dinner just for immediate family, and then the bride and groom found that campfire they were looking for.
It was the last enchanting touch to the day’s events, which represented warmth, love, and pure coziness. I’m so fortunate to have captured all the emotion, plenty of nature, and all the heartfelt moments, which have all the ingredients of a perfect elopement.
