Maternity | Sunrise Central Park Cherry Blossoms

There’s something magical about a New York maternity session in Central Park, especially during the cherry blossom season. In April, the park transforms into a sea of pink and white blooms, creating a stunning backdrop for a maternity session. Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing a wonderful couple who wanted to capture this special moment amidst the beauty of Central Park’s cherry blossoms. Here’s a glimpse into Catherine’s enchanting maternity session.

Being in Central Park in April makes you feel like you’ve been transported to another world. The cherry blossoms are in full bloom, turning the park into a canvas of soft pastels and vibrant colors. When Catherine told me that she wanted her maternity session at this location, I was thrilled. It is the perfect place to create exactly what she was looking for—an ethereal, natural vibe.

Before the session, I spent the weekend in NYC to do some location scouting for their Central Park maternity session (and did my own city cavorting, of course). To capture the best cherry blossom views, we met at Cherry Hill early in the morning to avoid the crowds and then meandered over to Bethesda Terrace. The early morning light added a soft glow to the photos. One of the beauties of a Central Park photo session is the ability to create different aesthetics by simply moving to various locations within the park. We captured the couple in a range of environments, from standing on a picturesque street lined with cherry blossoms to relaxing under a tree. We also took them to an open field where the cherry blossoms stood out against a backdrop of iconic New York buildings, offering a stunning blend of nature and cityscape. Additionally, we meandered to Bethesda Terrace to find beautiful architectural details. This variety allowed us to capture a diverse range of photos, each with its own unique charm.

If it isn’t obvious, Central Park is massive! The best thing for a photographer is being in a location that offers so many different settings and vibes. Catherine was very open to exploring the park a little bit to find many different spots that gave her some variety.

The cherry blossoms, the ethereal-inspired style, Catherine’s absolutely beautiful outfit, and the couple’s genuine connection made this shoot truly magical. NYC is a photographers playground and did I have so much fun. It was an honor to be part of this special moment, and I can’t wait to see this couple’s journey as they welcome their new addition to the family.
